Samsung to Introduce Solid-State Batteries in Wearables, Starting with Galaxy Ring

Samsung is preparing to revolutionize its wearables by incorporating solid-state batteries, which offer higher energy density and greater design flexibility. Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries that use liquid electrolytes, solid-state batteries rely on a solid electrolyte, making them safer with a lower risk of fire—a concern Samsung is well aware of from past experiences.

Galaxy Ring to Lead the Transition According to a new report from Korea, the first Samsung device to feature a solid-state battery will be a Galaxy Ring, launching in Q4 2025. This could be the Galaxy Ring 2 or Galaxy Ring 3, depending on the release timeline. The next step will be Samsung’s earbuds, expected to adopt solid-state batteries by Q4 2026, followed by smartwatches in Q4 2027. However, there is no confirmation on whether Samsung plans to introduce this technology to smartphones anytime soon.

Potential Cost Implications While solid-state batteries promise better safety and efficiency, they come at a higher manufacturing cost. This could make the next Galaxy Ring even more expensive than its predecessor, which was already considered pricey. Despite this, Samsung’s push toward safer and more efficient battery technology signals an exciting shift for the future of wearables.
