Pokémon Go's Future After Scopely Acquisition: Director Assures Players

Following the $3.5 billion acquisition of Niantic's gaming division by mobile gaming giant Scopely, Pokémon Go players have expressed concerns about potential changes to the game. Addressing these worries, senior product director Michael Steranka reassured fans in an interview with Polygon that the core experience will remain intact.

Steranka emphasized that Scopely recognizes the uniqueness of Pokémon Go and has no plans to introduce intrusive ads or alter its successful formula. He also dismissed concerns about data privacy, affirming that player data is not sold to third parties and remains securely managed under strict regulations.

Additionally, he reassured fans that Pokémon Go will continue to focus on outdoor exploration, stating, “I would be remiss if through this transaction, Pokémon Go became Pokémon Stay at Home.”

Ultimately, the game's leadership remains optimistic about the transition, believing that Scopely’s acquisition will be beneficial for both the game and its community.
