iPhone 17 Tipped to Finally Introduce 8K Video Recording

Unlike many Android devices, iPhones have yet to support 8K video recording. While the iPhone 16 series was rumored to bring high-resolution video capture, Apple ultimately chose not to implement it. However, a reliable tipster known for accurate Apple leaks now suggests that the iPhone 17 lineup will finally introduce 8K recording.

Currently, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus can record 4K video at up to 60fps, while the Pro and Pro Max models support up to 120fps. Internal reports indicate that Apple initially considered adding 8K recording to the iPhone 16 series but faced a limitation with the telephoto sensor used in the Pro and Pro Max models.

Capturing video at 8K resolution requires a sensor with approximately 35MP, whereas Apple's current sensors max out at 12MP. Apple reportedly decided against implementing 8K video recording since it would prevent seamless switching between lenses if the telephoto camera couldn't support the same resolution.

In contrast, Android manufacturers prioritize offering the highest possible recording resolution for each camera individually, even if it means inconsistencies when switching between lenses.

If the iPhone 17 series does introduce 8K video recording, it strongly suggests that Apple is planning to upgrade the telephoto sensor to a higher resolution, ensuring a consistent experience across all cameras.
